Tonight, Barack Obama and John McCain met at the University of Mississippi for the first presidential debate. Even up until earlier today, there was some question as to whether or not the debate was going to happen. John McCain had suggested that there was a possibility he might not attend, given the current economic crisis. Enough progress was made in that effort that McCain felt it possible to come to Ole' Miss for the debate. (Interestingly, Obama had planned to attend the debate, even if he were the only one there. Ironically, Obama was in a win-win situation leading up to the debate. If McCain did attend, they could have the debate as scheduled. Then again, even if McCain was not there, the debate could still go on. As Gary Varvel has illustrated, with as many times as Obama has flip-flopped on his positions to various issues, he could simply debate himself. :)
So, sit back, try to relax, and take in these two presidential pugilists. We won't know who won until the talking heads weigh in over the weekend to convey their political wisdom to the masses.
UPDATE: Here's an interesting assessment by Dave over at the Political Machine about one exchange in the debate. His light near the end regarding evil, is particularly revealing as to the nature of Obama's approach to foreign policy.
We found it funny that both sides thought they "had clearly won". We all know who won though don't we? ;)
Time for a change....

Unless Obamah got real strong on foreign policy overnight, I think McCain took the 1st debate. Foreign policy is not Obamah's strong point. Saturday morning on the radio, it was announced that MSNBC and CNN had taken their poll off the internet. They were asking people who they thought won the debate. I heard the audio and clearly heard Senator Obamah call Senator McCain, Jim McCain and also stuttered quite a bit. I don't dislike Senator Obamah and this is not a race issue or a skin color issue. I was not raised that way. I'm looking at the morals 1st, pro-life and the same-sex marriage issue.
