Sen. John McCain has been going toe-to-toe with Gov. Mitt Romney. And with 73% of the precincts reporting, McCain is beating Romney 36% to 31%. This victory certainly bodes well for McCain's increasing position as the GOP frontrunner. However, Super Duper Tuesday is less than a week away. And that will be the primary indicator of where both parties stand.
In a related surprise, be looking for Rudy Giuliani to drop out of the race in the next day or so. His distant third place finish in Florida is proving that his "late-surge-from-behind" strategy was not as strategic as originally predicted. His looks to endorse McCain, which is going to created an interesting situation for the Romney Camp.
Another TDD prediction: Don't be surprised to see Huckabee drop out not too long after Super Duper Tuesday. On the GOP side, this is shaping up into a 2-horse race between McCain and Romney. One of those two candidates is much more conservative than the other. See if you can figure out which one it is?
UPDATE: Giuliani makes it official by putting his support behind McCain. Meanwhile, Gov. Arnold Scwarzenegger is also set to endorse McCain early Thursday morning. These key endorsements do not bode well for Romney's candidacy. Super Duper Tuesday is a presumably a make-or-break win for Romney.
UPDATE: I had intended to include this Gary Varvel cartoon depicting John "Rambo", but forgot until I went over to Varvel's blog to find another gem. Pardon the oversight.
