Well, I got home about 6:30 p.m. this evening from Christy Cundiff's memorial service, after a wonderful dinner hosted by the good folks at our church. After facilitating the service and providing what turned out to be an emotional eulogy, I was spent. I made an unplanned trip to the Land of Nod and just woke up about 20 minutes ago.
Why is this significant? Because now I have to run off to Starbucks and revamp my already-scheduled sermon for tomorrow. :) In light of these recent events this week, the focus of the original sermon has had to shift considerably. This is the way these things go. It seems that the long days and short nights are no longer the exception to the rule. No worries, though. God is continuing to provide strength and stamina along the way which is the only reason I'm able to carry on with the pressing responsibilities in my life these days.
Once I'm able to come up for air, I'll provide a more fitting tribute to my friend, Christy here on The Daily Detour. In the meantime, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to those of you who have been praying for Jerry and the Cundiff family this week, as well as, your prayers for me. God helped me get through the service today and has allowed me to be able to provide some support for Jerry during this extremely difficult time.
We need to continue to keep him in our prayers now that the immediacy of the situation begins to wear off and everyone else goes on with their normal routines. His sense of "normalcy" has forever been irreversibly altered. And it is in the quiet moments of the coming weeks when the pain of loneliness and loss will leave its deepest mark.
