If you'll remember, we previously referenced Obama's impact on Hillary's presidential ambitions, what we have called the "Obama Effect". What was then merely a TDD premonition is now becoming a harsh reality for the Clinton campaign.
Former Clinton advisor (and current Townhall contributor), Dick Morris, reveals the significant impact of the Obama Effect, both directly and indirectly, on the evolving political strategy of Hillary & Co. (He also references Robert Novak's column about how Hillary has been tripped up by this unexpected development.) She is discovering that her ascendancy to the Democratic presidential nomination, which was once considered a foregone conclusion, is proving to be anything but. Morris writes,
She's gone steadily downhill since she announced...One key reason may be that her 'team' may not be used to working in Democratic primaries and never expected any real opposition this time. They simply don't know how to deal with the nuances of a primary, as we can see from what's happened to her ratings...one thing is clear: All of them, and Hillary, too, expected to simply walk away with the Democratic nomination and then grab the White House. Just like the two Senate races...But then along came Obama.
That is the emerging reality..."along came Obama." Because of Obama's meteroic rise from political obscurity, Hillary never saw the Obama Effect coming until it was too late. And now she finds her campaign reeling from it. (She's savvy, and she's been in the game long enough that she'll make adjustments. But so will Obama.)
Here at The Daily Detour, we've never shied away from making various predictions about the happenings in American culture. Thus, I'm going to suggest that you watch closely what happens with the ongoing impact of the Obama Effect in the coming months. As the presidential primaries loom ever closer, if Obama's campaign continues to have the desired effect, you will see an eventual democratic implosion--first with Hillary's campaign and then, because of the Clintons' far-reaching influence, throughout the Democratic establishment. And it's very possible that some of the collateral damage from that implosion will pave the way for a Republican victory in November of 2008.
As we pointed out back in February, even the most uninformed political observer could see Hillary's writing on the wall regarding her long-held ambitions for the presidency. It has invariably shaped the strategic decisions made throughout both hers, and Bill's, political careers.
One would be hard-pressed, therefore, to believe that she will allow this young upstart from Illinois to threaten her political dream. For she has worked too hard for too long, and put up with too much of Bill's shenanigans, to go down without a fight. And as anyone within the Democratic establishment knows, while it was Bill who carried the title, "President," it was Hillary who wielded the power with a ruthless hand. Working in tandem, they are a pair to be reckoned with. Both are not used to losing. Nor are they, and Hillary in particular, accustomed to being prevented from reaching their objectives. Truth be told, it could get ugly. But, at the very least, it will be entertaining to watch. Stay tuned as this fascinating political drama unfolds.
The Leeches love a good train wreck...

I think its a little funny that the Dems won't put up the money to ensure success in Iraq but Hilary and Obama will spend (waste) tons on an ugly catfight. They must think that's okay. Seems a little like the whole Al Gore/Energy issue. Say one thing, do another.

Wow! I never thought about it that way before. It could very well be a blessing in disguise that we will have a democratic boxing match like the one coming up. Hopefully, Hillary won't stoop so low as to bite off Obama's ear.
