Earlier this week, I posted a brief blogging tribute to our military service men and women that was punctuated by the unlikeliest of sources, the very-liberal Hollywood actor, Alec Baldwin. According to news reports, Mr. Baldwin himself (and not through his agent) contacted the family of Pvt. Resha Kane, after being particularly moved by a recent New York Times story about her situation. He offered to pay for her college tuition after she completes her military service.
Normally, Mr. Baldwin and I would approach most issues from decidedly different philosophical positions, but you have to respect anyone who is willing to put his money toward such a worthy cause. There's nothing quite so refreshing as seeing someone bucked the conventional prejudice of the Hollywood establishment. Imagine what would happen if more of the Hollywood heavyweights followed his example. It's a good lesson for all of us about the importance of not allowing our personal biases to keep us from committing ourselves to pursuing what is right.
Do you have the original article so we can read it without having to pay for it?
